Kathleen Holmes(B.Soc.Sci. LLB. Advanced Dip. Labour Law) is a practising attorney, having completed her articles at Adams & Adams in Pretoria. During her time at Adams & Adams she specialised in Employment Law.
Soon after completing she joined the legal division of Gold Fields Limited. She extended her area of expertise during her time with Gold Fields in the area of Employment Law and gained valuable exposure to the area of Industrial Relations within the mining sector.
She left Gold Fields to start a family and in doing so returned to practice for her own account. She has continued to provide legal advice primarily to the mining sector, and in particular Gold Fields Limited with legal and consulting advice in the area of Employment Law.
Her area of expertise includes advice on individual dismissals, representations at the CCMA and the Labour Courts, the management of collective agreements and related structures with Unions, strike management, policy work and training and development. Kathleen has over 18 years experience in the field of Employment Law and Employee Relations and provides these services in her capacity as an attorney.
Kath has gained invaluable expertise in the fields of mine, health and safety, in particular accident investigations, legal letters of appointment, disciplinary action associated with accidents and serious safety transgressions.
Anthony Solomon is an attorney, having completed his articles and then practiced law in the 1990’s, with Bell Dewar & Hall, the well-known Johannesburg firm of attorney’s. He specialised in Employment Law.
Seeking real experience in the corporate sector, Anthony joined one of the leading food manufactures in the country, with a highly complex, large and at the time, militant unionised workforce.
As a Director of this listed entity Anthony was instrumental in initiating major restructuring of the Company including positive changes to the relationship between Management and Union leaders.This exposure involved major restructuring of the workforce including retrenchments, strike action and closures.
Anthony’s on going corporate exposure, together with his legal expertise make him the ideal consultant, providing practical solutions to a company’s Employment Law and Employee Relations requirements.
Anthony is an accredited mediator.
After obtaining her LL.B at Wits University in 2005, Gugu entered private practice and immediately specialised in employment law. She was admitted as an attorney in January 2009.
Working for a number of specialist employment lawyers she has gained comprehensive cross sectoral experience advising clients in both the public and private sector. Gugu joined solomonholmes in September 2013.
Gugu ‘s expertise extends to all aspects of labour law and she is able to advise clients on all manner of employment issues such as dismissals, poor work performance, grievances, strikes, wage negotiations and retrenchments. She also drafts various agreements from contracts of employment to settlement agreements as well as policy and procedure documents. In addition Gugu has specialised in managing review applications in the Labour Court.
Theresa Achada obtained her Bachelor of Commerce (cum laude) degree from the University of South Africa and LLB (cum laude) degree from Rhodes University. She lectured law for two years at Rhodes University before deciding to enter practice. She was admitted as an attorney, notary public and conveyancer in 2005, and continued to practice at one of the leading laws firms in Africa, Bowman Gilfillan.
Having met and then married her husband, a lawyer at the same practice, she later joined MacRobert Attorneys in Pretoria. Since having been admitted as an attorney, she has practiced exclusively in the field of employment law. Her decision to join SolomonHolmes is a natural progression for her career in that she is able to provide her wide ranging expertise within a firm dedicated to corporate employment law.
Theresa has advised a wide range of clients, including multinational companies, South African corporate employers, and executive and senior employees extensively on a broad range of labour law related issues, which include employment consequences of ommercial transactions and restructurings, dismissals, employment contracts, HR policies and procedures.
