PROFILE

Jayson Kent is an attorney, having specialized in employment law during and since his articles. He has been in practice for over 12 years. Before joining solomonholmes, Jayson was a Senior Associate in the employment law department of ENSafrica.

Jayson is the firm’s lead counsel in representing clients in the Labour Appeal and Labour Court. He is also active in the CCMA, and several Bargaining Councils. Jayson has extensive experience in collective bargaining disputes, strike law and disputes related to the transfer of businesses in terms of section 197.

He also advises clients on a broad range of disciplinary and performance employment law-related issues, and regularly advises clients on conducting disciplinary and performance hearings. His expertise in prosecuting such cases saves client’s both money and time, and significantly reduces the risks in possible future litigation.

Over the course of his career, Jayson has acted for a wide range of clients, including clients in the sectors of mining, banking, construction, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, aviation, education, management consulting, automotive, retail, and manufacturing.

Jayson has twice been appointed as an acting Judge of the Labour Court.

PASSION

Jayson’s passion is to be found in litigating in the Labour and Labour Appeal courts. He has been involved in several reported Labour Court, Labour Appeal Court and Constitutional Court cases which have developed various legal aspects of the right to strike and collective bargaining.

In doing so, Jayson is able to isolate the key issues in disputes which make for efficient and effective litigation, a key value close to the heart of solomonholmes.

His passion for employment law, and its application in a fair and transparent manner attracted him to join solomonholmes in serving its corporate client base across the South African business landscape.

At home, Jayson, without wanting it, has a passion for horses and ponies!
